      I have been working in the M&A world for over 10 years and since 2018, I have been working to buy a small business. Last year my father started considering a sale of his business and he came to me for advice. 

 

      Like most entrepreneurs, he was deeply focused on his product, customers, and employees. But he hadn't given his exit too much thought. It is a difficult topic to consider, but as he approaches retirement, he finds himself underprepared while having to deal with brokers, buyers, lawyers, accountants, valuations, due diligence, and the list goes on. 

      My father and I worked through a framework to approach the sale of the business. The series of articles below describes how a business owner should approach their exit.
